Getz
Bros. History

GETZ BROS the world's largest non-commodity international marketing
and services company- traces its beginnings to 1860 and a place
called Lower Lake, California, a frontier area one hundred miles
north of San Francisco. Joseph Getz, a Prussian immigrant, opened
a general store that served farmers in the area, selling dry goods
and groceries.
Over
a century later, the global company that grew from the little store
markets many of the same types of products ( plus a wide range of
industrial, biomedical and technical products) through a network
of two dozen offices in the U.S., Europe Australia and Asia.
GETZ
BROS. Started doing business in the Philippines as early as 1918
under its original name, Getz Bros. & Co., Inc. (Philippines).
Before the outbreak of World War II, Getz engaged mainly in the
indent business. The only stock item for local distribution at that
time was Klim (full cream milk powder). Getz was also active then
in exports with such products as desiccated coconut, peanuts, wool
and miscellaneous items.
After World War II, Getz expanded both its product portfolio and
distribution coverage to include the major market regions of the
country.
Toward
the latter part of 1975, Trans Union Corporation, the parent company
of The Getz Corporation and Getz Bros. & Co., Inc. acquired
the Muller & Phipps Group of companies worldwide. As a result
of this acquisition, the existing Muller & Phipps companies
in the Philippines at that time, namely Muller & Phipps (Manila)
Ltd., and Muller & Phipps Industrial together with Airmac International,
another company acquired by the Getz Corporation engaged in the
heavy equipment business, were consolidated with Getz Bros. &
Co., Inc. (Philippines) under a new company named The Getz Corporation
Philippines, Inc. Another Muller & Phipps company, Muller &
Phipps Manufacturing Corporation, was retained as a separate company
and therefore was not included in the consolidation.
A major
change came in 1981, when Getz's parent company, Trans Union Corporation
became a member of the Marmon Group, Inc., an international association
of autonomous manufacturing and service companies with collective
sales in excess of $6.5 billion.
Another major change, this time affecting the Philippine operations
of Getz, transpired in 1983 when the operating units of The Getz
Corporation Philippines Inc. were rationalized leading to the dissolution
of the company. The remaining operating units after the rationalization
were absorbed by Muller & Phipps Manufacturing Corporation and
the latter was renamed GETZ BROS. PHILS., INC.
GETZ
BROS. PHILS., INC. currently has three (3) operating divisions -
Consumer & Healthcare, Industrial Equipment / Building Materials,
and Biomedical.
